Blackstone

Last weekend Mum and I visited Blackstone Valley for a hike and a tour of the gorge there. It was really neat, and not at all what I expected. I have a bit of a grim view of Rhode Island. But this was beautiful and quirky.
The minute we hit the town, we came upon "The Gold Miner's Thrift Store", which, of course, sounded magical. AND IT WAS. Next door to that was Rosebud's hat shop. We met Rosebud who was as lovely and quirky as her shop.
I can't wait to go back and explore more!

Thankful For Friday

This was going to be a "Friday Favorites" post, but was very quickly going from "Friday Favorites" to "I REALLY NEED THIS, RIGHT NOW, OR I'LL DIE" post. So, then I thought why not cover the things I already have and am very thankful for and still get all excited over
because they are awesome?!

1. NY Warrior Dash Medal. I did it! Slowly....but I did it!

2. Pink oxfords. Oxfords are one of my favorite styles of shoe. And especially slightly odd oxfords. I'm quite proud to own these.

3. My keyboard. I've had this since I was about 14, and I still play it almost every day.

4. Tom Waits necklace. I absolutely adore this man. And this necklace. You can purchase your own *Here*.

5. Birchbox! $10 a month gets you all sorts of exciting high-end samples. I'm loving this subscription.

6. Matpewka 110mm Lomo camera. So absolutely precious and Russian! It even has a little golden Matryoshka doll on the top.

7. Red wedges and matching camera. I will not lie. I bought the shoes because they matched the camera. I honestly did. And I'm not sorry at all!!

Late Night Tuesday Sewing

I have so much fabric that needs to get made into things! Yesterday I finally started. Using a Butterick shirt pattern I had, I lengthened it and made a snappy yellow knee-length dress. I liked it so much I used some slightly sheer olive green fabric, also in my fabric-library, and made a belted maxi-dress (I wore it all day today and it was fabulously comfortable. I felt a bit like a Jane Austen character though... not that I mind that...).

PreciousJoy was there for moral support. Attacking my pattern pieces and furring up my fabric.

I'm going to finally start doing outfit posts this week, something I've been wanting to do for a while. I think I'll start with my yellow creation!

Bunheads

Bunheads is absolutely my new favorite show. I don't watch a lot of TV, but this caught my attention and it's so adorable and clever. The storyline is basically, a Vegas showgirl marries a fan she hardly knows, on a whim, he brings her home to Paradise, California to live with him and his eccentric mother, who owns a dance studio. The characters are wonderful and the dancing makes me wish I had stuck with ballet, rather than busting my knees all up with roller derby and running off with ballet's strumpet of a cousin, belly dance.
I hope this show has a bazillion seasons and everybody falls in love with it like I have. It is a gem of a show (and it's on Hulu!).

Naturey- Bits

Here are just a few of the things we found on our Letchworth hikes. Lots and lots and lots of different sorts of mushrooms, bugs and bones (I think we took about a million mushroom pictures. I've edited just a bit!).

Weekend Slides

This past weekend Mum and I took a very very very long drive out to Western New York to do adventury things. We camped at Stony Brook State Park in Dansville, which turned out to be absolutely, jaw-droppingly amazing. It was sublime camping weather (70s in the day and high 40s in the night, just the way we like it!), and crazy amazing hiking down into Canyons and then high above them, looking down.
Then we drove about a half hour out to Letchworth State Park (aka "The Grand Canyon of the East") and our minds were blown once again. I absolutely love love love New York.
These photos were taken using a TtV (Through the Viewfinder) method, a Pentax K100D and a Kodak Brownie!
